The Enhanced Edition — Not the Standard One

This is the Enhanced edition of Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence, and it is worth knowing the difference: 48 pages instead of the usual 32, full-color throughout, and personalized access to the Interactive Practice Studio. If your director's supply list just says "Standard of Excellence Book 1," this is the one most local band rooms are using. This is the Flute book, written specifically for that instrument.

Three Ways In

Book 1 offers three different starting systems, so a director can begin a class the way that suits the group rather than the way the book insists. Alongside them sit the FOR FLUTES ONLY pages — exercises written for the particular quirks of this instrument, not generic lines transposed into its key. Oboe, French Horn and Percussion get expanded treatment for exactly that reason.
