Choosing Your Strength

Reed strength is a matter of resistance. A lower number is softer and easier to blow — 2.0 is the easiest and a common starting point for beginners — while a higher number like 3.0 is firmer, with more resistance and more projection as your playing develops. Strength 3.0 slots in accordingly. If you are between sizes or just starting out, err softer and move up as your embouchure strengthens.
